"Things To Do" at Te Mata Lodge

 

Each cottage, chalet and cabin has a booklet with information about Te Mata Lodge facilities, day trips and outings, and historical/geological information about the Coromandel.

Swimming and Kayaking - Swimming in three swimming holes with sandy beaches and bordered by Pohutukawa.  A range of kayaks available, free of charge, for all ages and sizes, as well paddle boards and inner-tubes.

Walks - We have several walks here at Te Mata Lodge—a  bush walk, river walk, native tree trail, coastal track.  There are over 10 acres in our hidden valley for you to explore.  Ask at the office for directions and maps.  At the office we also have information about walks further afield.

Birdwatching - There are 50+ New Zealand native and introduced birds known in the Te Mata area.  We have a brochure available for our guests which lists the birds which have been spotted, and gives pointers on the best places to find them.

Mussel gathering at Te Mata Point - Low tides are posted daily.  We can lend you a bucket.  25 limit per person.

Rockhounding and gold panning - Te Mata Stream is renowned for its gemstones.  Call into the office for pans and tips on finding carnelian, chert, chalcedony, jasper and other gemstones. (Rock shoes available for use free of charge for river walks).

Glow worm grotto - Book in with Warwick for your guided night tour of the glow worms. 

BBQs - Gas BBQs are available free of charge.  Fire restrictions limit the use of wood BBQs.

Games - Petanque, badminton racquets, volley balls, cricket bats, board games available from the office

Relax in a hammock and read a book - We have several hammocks strung up along the river and each cottage, chalet and cabin has a small library of "holiday reads", magazines and popular fiction.

The Te Mata Lodge Shop sells our logo t-shirts, polished stones, some local crafts, chocolates and postcards.
